As dozens of residents attended both special business meetings, a number expressed their support while a majority shared concerns, one being about the added language added to the ballot title on Aug. 28.
Some residents argued that it provides transparency and that voters deserve to know exactly what they are being asked to decide on.
“People should have a full picture of what the ramifications are for any ballot measure,” a Highlands Ranch resident said.
Others saw the language as confusing and putting the commissioners’ thumb on the scale.
State Rep. Bob Marshall argued that a fiscal note does not belong in the ballot title and that it’s an effort to undermine the will of thousands of voters.
“You have a citizen petition and (the) three of you are trying to override what they asked for in the last seconds,” Marshall said.
