Kim Monson: Yes on 200, 5 by district on 201, and No on 1A

Conservative radio show host and President of the Colorado Union of Taxpayers, Kim Monson, highlighted Ballot Questions 200, 201, and 1A on her October 12 show and in her 2026 Voter Guide. In an interview with Rep. Bob Marshall (Highlands Ranch), Monson unpacked the three questions on the November ballot related to expanding the Douglas County Board of Commissioners from three members to five.
In her Voter Guide, Monson recommends YES on 200. "Douglas County has outgrown a three-member board," Monson reasons, concluding that "more people call for more representation, and two added seats give Douglas County that."
On Ballot Question 201, Monson supports the election of five commissioners by district. She reasons that "when a seat is filled by the whole county, the areas with the most voters decide it, and an area with fewer people can end up represented by someone its residents didn't choose. Monson concludes, "With five district seats, each commissioner answers to the voters of one district, and no seat is left to a countywide vote."
Monson opposes 1A. In her words, "It would carry the countywide vote used for today's three commissioners onto all five seats, so the most populous parts of the county would cast most of the votes in every race and the less populated areas would carry less weight in each one. I support five commissioners, each chosen by one district's voters alone, as Question 201's first method provides, and Question 1A sets up a countywide method to compete with it." She recommends NO on 1A.
