A petition is circulating across Douglas County as residents are seeking to put a question on the November ballot that would ask voters if they want to increase the number of county commissioners from three to five.

The petition stems from a citizen-led effort aiming to bring more representation and accountability to the board of county commissioners and to meet the demand of a growing county.

“I’ve watched a county of almost 400,000 people being run by three people and I’ve always felt like it was just not good governance, that the people needed more voice,” Douglas County resident Angela Thomas said.
