Historic Win for Citizen-Led Initiative

Douglas County voters made history on Election Day and passed the county’s first citizen-initiated ballot question in the last 30 years.

We may need your help to finish the job.

The three current commissioners created confusion for voters and a legal conflict with 1A.

We fought 1A before the election. We protested it to the commissioners in August, and in September, Rep. Bob Marshall challenged it in court. Without using the words “at large,” 1A proposed to elect all commissioners at large, in direct conflict with the two options in 201. We believe it also conflicts with Colorado law.

The commissioners have already used  $52,837 of our tax dollars on legal fees to interfere with the certified citizen-led petition. As citizens, we used donated dollars to tell voters the truth about 200, 201, and 1A.

In September, the judge ruled that the court could only intervene in ballot questions like 1A after the election, virtually ensuring we would be back in court. We’re working on legal next steps now.

Help us stay ready for whatever comes next.

The commissioners used our tax dollars to oppose this citizen-led effort for fair representation and good governance. And they will continue to use our tax dollars to protect their power.

Stay tuned.
