Excerpted from the 9News story:

"Douglas County voters appear poised to expand the county’s Board of Commissioners from three members to five, but the election leaves an unresolved question over how those five commissioners will be elected."

Help Us Finish the Job

The commissioners have already used $52,837 of our tax dollars on legal fees to interfere with the certified citizen-led petition. As citizens, we used donated dollars to tell voters the truth about 200, 201, and 1A.

We fought 1A before the election. We protested it to the commissioners in August, and in September, Rep. Bob Marshall challenged it in court. Without using the words “at large,” 1A proposed to elect all commissioners at large, in direct conflict with the two options in 201. We believe it also conflicts with Colorado law.

The Douglas County Clerk says this will be decided in court. We agree. Help us be ready.

More from the 9News story:

"Question 201 asked voters how the five commissioners should be elected if the board expands.

Voters could choose either five commissioners elected by district, with each commissioner elected only by voters in that district, or a hybrid system with three district commissioners and two commissioners elected at large by voters across the county.

The district-only option is currently winning.

But the county commissioners also placed Question 1A on the ballot.

That question asks: “In the event the Douglas County Board of Commissioners is increased to five members, shall all registered Douglas County voters continue to elect all County Commissioners?”

That question is also passing.

Thomas said the competing questions have left voters confused about what their votes mean and what happens next.

“For me, 1A was a measure put on by the commissioners in an effort to confuse the voters,” Thomas said....""We do not know how this plays out, and so we anticipate that we will be litigating this and letting a judge decide."
